Find the one that bends and flexes the least and that should be the most comfortable. Another option is to get a full length metal shank to put inside the shoe (under the insole) to help stop motion. We have them at our office and a pair is $199. If you want to call the office and get them they can mail them to you. Order one full size smaller than whatever your shoe size is. It is a new product that we have just started carrying and I have not officially written about them yet on the blog, but since your trip is coming up - you may want to give them a try. If they are not working for you, we will be happy to give you a refund if you need to send them back - but they are excellent and should work.
Also, get your RX Crocs for around the house as bedroom slippers and if you are going to do any water sports or beach activities, I recommend the Chaco Z1 or Z2 or the Keen's Newport HW. You can get these at REI and try to find the one that bends and flexes the least.
Hope you have a wonderful trip!
Cathy
:)Doctor of Podiatry Discusses and Recommends Shoes.https://www.blogger.com/profile/16089487452078445266noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-613146076654241194.post-8719539517085718122014-12-14T18:09:50.294-08:002014-12-14T18:09:50.294-08:00Hi - I have been in a walking boot for about 4 wee...Hi - I have been in a walking boot for about 4 weeks suffering from capulitis. My foot is much better and my family is leaving for 2 weeks in Costa Rica very soon. I need good, waterproof hiking boots - high ones (not shoes) - and cannot locate high boots of the ones you recommended. Can you recommend any others? Do you know anything about Ahnu boots? Any advice you could offer would be great!caghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02172770355152373375noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-613146076654241194.post-51223966627297707772014-10-11T13:40:03.077-07:002014-10-11T13:40:03.077-07:00Hi Ted,

Most injuries to the foot and ankle are caused by repetitive motions in poor shoegear.

You need shoes with a thick, rigid sole that you cannot bend or flex, a wide, soft toebox, arch support and rearfoot control.

Start with RX Crocs Ultimate Cloud in the house for bedroom slippers and get the New Balance 928 - this is a good starting point. They are expensive, but they are sometimes covered by Medicare if your mother has certain medical conditions such as diabetes. Have you tried the New Balance 928 or 1540? Also, I sometimes have patients who I place in bilateral surgical shoes with ace wraps on both feet, which is comfortable and accommodates a lot of swelling.
Good luck and let me know how it turns out!
Thanks for reading the blog,
Cathy
:)Doctor of Podiatry Discusses and Recommends Shoes.https://www.blogger.com/profile/16089487452078445266noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-613146076654241194.post-19115041013489533052014-09-30T12:20:20.483-07:002014-09-30T12:20:20.483-07:00One thing that's never occurred to me is the i...One thing that's never occurred to me is the important roll our shoes play in our over all foot health. There are some crazy looking shoes with all sorts of different designs that can really mess up the way we walk and the way our foot is shaped. It's important that we pay attention to these little details so that we can always have healthy feet.

http://www.balancepodiatry.com.au/locations/townsvilleAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11837696497152707962noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-613146076654241194.post-24620311244107350142014-09-26T20:37:36.936-07:002014-09-26T20:37:36.936-07:00I never knew they made podiatry shoes!
