What is your favorite/most comfortable/prettiest dress shoe ever? Basically, if you had to pick one pair of women's dress shoes that you had to wear for the rest of your life - what would it be?

ReplyDeleteThis is why I read your blog as well. I have been suffering with Plantar Fasciitis in both feet and now have developed a Tailor's bunion on my left foot as a result. Any suggestion on shoes? I also have just recently received custom orthotics. Please help.

I am looking for an everyday shoe to wear. I am unable to do anything for long distance, even grocery shopping without pain. I am not a diabetic and I am not aware of any nerve damage. I am approaching my 40th birthday next month. I just want to walk without pain. I would like to try and find a shoe that is casual but also nice to wear to church. At this point, I am not to particular.
ReplyDeleteMake sure that you eliminate barefoot walking, flip flops, walking around the house in socks and slippers. For around the house get a pair of Croc Rx clogs and wear the strap to the back. Even if you get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night - step out of bed and right into your Crocs. No barefoot! ReplyDeleteTry the Sketcher Shape-ups and see how it feels. It's not for everybody but try it on and if you like it, break into it slowly. For a sandal, try the Wolky Tulip or Jewel - they are a bit pricey but totally worth the cost. For a cute "kick around" shoe to go with jeans, try the Dansko Volley.
I would recommend arch support - over the counter I like Pro-step. If you go to a Podiatrist, he or she will either talk to you about custom molded inserts or will have a good OTC alternative in their office.
If you are only forty (you're young!!) and you are having that much pain, I highly recommend that you see a Podiatrist. Don't jump in to surgery or injections - try to find a Podiatrist who will exhaust conservative treatment before turning to surgery. There are so many different things (simple things) we as Podiatrists can do to help you!

I was a patient or yours (the drive was too far and costly.) and am currently seeing a Podiatrist. I have custom mold inserts. I have at this point exhausted all conservative treatment and doing therapy exercises at home and I am not getting any relief. I tried the Pro Step insert and they caused an increase of pain. I tried the Skecher shape-ups and they caused more pain. I currently have a pair of Dansko Sissy sandals, crocs (I did not get the RX - make a difference?) and New Balance All Terrain trail 573 with the custom mold insert. I am not getting any relief. I do not walk barefoot or wear flip flops and I am beyond frustrated. The next step is surgery and I am little leery but if that is going to relieve the pay I may have to do it.
ReplyDeleteWhat was your diagnosis? Is it a pain syndrome like RSD or Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome? If so - the next step may be to go to a Neurologist or Pain Management Specialist. I can't really comment because I haven't seen you as a patient in awhile but - what part of town do you live in - I may be able to recommend a good Podiatrist in your area for a second opinion.

Dr Lewis Freed in Mesa is one of the best Podiatrists in the state - he would be a great place to start for a second opinion!

ReplyDeleteI am really sorry to say that I don't know any of the Pods in Prescott! I'm sure there are some excellent Podiatrists up there and if you are having that much pain I would definitely make an appointment for evaluation and treatment.

My favorite dress shoes? Grey alligator sling-back 3 inch heels! But you won't let me wear things like that anymore. Ha Ha. So, now I wear Wolkies (it took me a long time to get used to them) and Scoots which I hate, and I don't leave the house with them on because they are like tugboats on my feet.

And now that I see you are saying Sketcher Shape-ups are okay, I'll try those.
Funny you should ask this! Just the other day I was wearing my Naot Pleasures and thinking, "These are the prettiest, most comfortable shoes I've ever had! I could wear these the rest of my life!"
ReplyDeleteI have them in black patent leather, which makes them quite dressy. Yet the style is a classic Mary Jane, so they should stay in style for a long time.
They don't rub or pinch anywhere, fit my orthotics if I need them (but I usually don't with these shoes) and I loooooove them. High praise indeed from a chronic plantar fasciitis sufferer!
If I needed another pair of dressy shoes, I would definitely choose another Naot on this same sole, the "Eden" collection. Other pretty styles include the Charm and Select, along with several booties, clogs and knee-high boots.
Cole Haan Air - pretty much anything with a wedge heel, but I particularly like the Air Lainey with the 2" wedge heel. This is based on what I reach for most often in the morning.

Earthies make some really cute dress shoes with a great arch support. Veria, Monaco, and Santiago are my favorites.
